fastq.gz files fail to upload to the CE Store

Question:
When trying to run a job on the Calculation Engine with fastq.gz files on a local file server, the fastq.gz files fail to upload to the CE Store and my job remains at status 'WaitingQueued' indefinitely.
Answer:

From June 28th 2023, AWS S3 will only accept communication using TLS 1.2+ encryption. The CEStoreUploader executable that is shipped with BioNumerics versions 8.0 and 7.6 still uses TLS 1.0/1.1 encryption and its requests will therefore be blocked by AWS S3. Depending on the installed software version, we propose following solutions:

BIONUMERICS version 8.0 users can simply upgrade to the latest version 8.1.1. This is a free upgrade, but it does require a new license string.

BioNumerics version 7.6 users need to replace the CEStoreUploader by a more recent version, following the procedure outlined below:

  • Check if you have the 64-bit version of BioNumerics version 7.6 installed. If not, you will need to install the 64-bit version first (the steps below will not work for the 32-bit version).
  • Locate the BioNumerics installation directory (C:\Program Files\Applied Maths\BioNumerics by default) on your hard drive.
  • In the BioNumerics installation directory, rename the "CEStoreUploader" folder into e.g. "CEStoreUploader_renamed". You will likely need Windows administrator privileges to do so.
  • Download the CEStoreUploader ZIP archive.
  • Unzip the CEStoreUploader ZIP archive.
  • Copy the resulting CEStoreUploader directory into the BioNumerics installation directory (requires admin privileges).
