Next-Generation Sequencing Workshop

NGS Workshop During our Next-Generation Sequencing Workshop – which consist of two days – participants will get a good overview of all the possibilities of the BioNumerics software package for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) through numerous hands-on demos and exercises. By the end of the workshop you should have clear insights into the main BioNumerics NGS applications, including:

  • The import of NGS data as sequence read sets, including data validation and pre-processing,
  • Mapping of reads against a reference genome,
  • De novo assembly,
  • Annotation of an assembled genome,
  • Whole genome MLST (wgMLST) analysis, i.e. gene-by-gene systems as an extension of traditional 7-gene MLST,
  • Whole genome SNP (wgSNP) analysis, i.e. the detection of SNPs on whole genomes sequences mapped against a reference sequence,
  • Phylogenetic analysis based on wgMLST and/or wgSNP, and
  • Genotyping tools that allow to screen the strain resistome and virulome, and in addition allow determination of e.g. pathotype (E. coli), serotype (E. coli), spa type (S. aureus)…

A more detailed workshop agenda will be provided soon!

Analysis day

Optionally, you can register for an extra Analysis Day where you can bring your own data and work with our specialized staff on your individual analysis requirements.

Practical information

The Next-Generation Sequencing Workshop consists of two full days and will begin on Wednesday morning at 9am and runs until 5pm, with coffee breaks and a lunch break in between. A complimentary “networking” dinner is offered to all participants on Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning the sessions start again at 9am and end at 4pm. Workshop Notes are offered free of charge and include color-printed hand-outs of all the lectures and tutorials of the hands-on demonstrations and exercises. The Analysis Day starts at 9am until 1pm, with lunch also included.

A basic knowledge of the BioNumerics software or familiarity with the applications covered is presumed. For a more general introduction to the use of BioNumerics, we refer to our Basic Workshop.

The number of participants to the workshop is limited to 18. A maximum of 8 participants can be accommodated during the Analysis Day to ensure a high standard of quality and efficiency. In case the workshop is fully booked, the date of registration together with prepayment will be decisive. Applied Maths NV reserves the right to cancel this workshop up to one month before the scheduled date in case of insufficient response.

Registration fee

The registration for the general two-days Workshop, including 2 lunches and one evening dinner is 995 Euro (excl. VAT*). The cost for the Analysis Day on Friday is 545 Euro (excl. VAT*).
