Kodon Version 3.10 – Local BLAST enabled
Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium, March 10, 2006 – Applied Maths BVBA today announces the release of Version 3.10 of its Kodon software for databasing and analysis of sequence and chromosome data. Among sequence analysis software applications, Kodon stands out by its powerful SQL database capacity and its unique chromosome analysis, comparison and annotation tools.
After the major upgrade of August 5th, 2005 containing a large number of new and innovative tools such as DNA and CDS based comparative chromosome mapping, automatic annotation, and multiplex PCR design, this minor upgrade offers one important addition, the BLAST algorithm. The NCBI BLAST algorithm library has been implemented so that Kodon can generate indexed BLAST databases from nucleotide and amino acid sequences, and screen any selected subsequence, gene or protein against a BLAST database of choice. The user-friendly, surveyable and clickable report views make BLAST a quick, easy and useful asset in a number of Kodon applications such as identifying unknown genes or regions, frame and codng sequence analysis, and annotation. Furthermore, a local BLAST algorithm has the advantage over Internet based BLAST that sequence information does not have to be uploaded, a feature which is important when sequence information should not be disclosed.
A full list of improvements and additions in Kodon version 3.0 and 3.10 can be found in the "New Features" documentation sheet.
