Protection key software cannot be started

Question: 

When I try to open a database, I receive the error message "The protection key software cannot be started".

Answer: 

This error is displayed when the dongle drivers are not (properly) installed. Try uninstalling the drivers from the computer and reinstall them again.

Step 1: Uninstall the drivers

  • Remove the dongle from the computer.
  • Click Start, click Control panel, then double-click "Add or remove programs" (Windows XP) or double-click "Programs and Features" (Windows Vista), or select "Uninstall a program" (Windows 7).
  • Select the Sentinel program from the list and uninstall the program.

Step 2: Install the drivers

  • You can download and install the latest Sentinel drivers from the Sentinel website. Choose the Windows operating system option 'Sentinel System Driver Installer for Sentinel SuperPro, UltraPro & SHK'. Make sure you have sufficient privileges to install the drivers on the computer.
  • After installation, attach the dongle to the computer again.
  • Run the check SN tool. If the serial number of the dongle is displayed, the dongle is recognized.
