Compare samples from different gels

Question:

How can I compare samples from different gels?

Answer:

In order to compare samples from different gels, the gels should be linked to the same fingerprint type experiment in the database.

  • When all gels are normalized with the same reference system, the reference system only needs to be created once and can be used for the subsequent normalization of the other gels.
  • When the gels are normalized using different reference systems, i.e. reference systems that have at least one different reference position, the reference systems cannot be remapped automatically. In that case, you need to specify the molecular weight regression curves for both reference systems*. Once the regression is known for both systems, the program will be able to remap the gels from one system into the other, and you will be able to compare the patterns.

* To calculate the regression curves, double-click on the fingerprint type, and then double-click on the reference system. If you entered the molecular weights for the names for the reference bands, you can simply choose Metrics > Copy markers from reference system, if not, you will have to enter the MW markers one by one.
