Luc Vauterin, Ph.D.Chief Executive Director Luc has worked for 10 years as a doctoral and post-doctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Microbiology of the Ghent University (Belgium) from 1987 to 1997. Inspired by his own extensive studies on microbial biodiversity and the resulting need for integrative data analysis software, he co-founded Applied Maths in 1994. Luc earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Ghent in 1995. He has been Managing Director of Applied Maths since its inception.
Ruth DevenynsChairman Ruth is Investment Director of KBC Private Equity and has a Masters Degree in Applied Economics (Ghent University, 1986). She joined KBC Bank’s Economic Research Department in 1986, where she covered several industries including the chemical & pharmaceutical industry, and published numerous articles in the bank’s economic magazine. In 1992, she moved to the bank’s Corporate Finance Department. In 1995, she was asked to start up KBC Securities’ equity research team, where she gradually specialized in biotechnology. She was actively involved in a number of IPO’s and private placements. She is currently managing KBC’s private equity investments in life sciences. Current investments/board positions include a.o. Ablynx (BE), Altea Therapeutics (US), Applied Maths (BE), Ceres (US), Movetis (BE), PharmaNeuroBoost (BE), Pronota (BE), Metabolex (US), PR Pharmaceuticals (US).
Jo Breesch, Ir.Non-executive director Jo Breesch is Investment Director of KBC Private Equity. He holds a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louvain, Belgium. He represents KBC Private Equity on the board of directors of Applied Maths and a number of other companies such as Materialise, Egemin, Pinguin, Lenaerts-Blommaert Groep, Di Legno Interiors, and Tailormade Logistics.
Johan Cardoen, Ph.D.Non-executive director Johan Cardoen is current CEO of CropDesign, Gent, Belgium and Chairman of FlandersBio. Johan Cardoen received his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Leuven, Belgium (1987). From 1988 until joining CropDesign, he worked for Plant Genetic Systems (PGS) as Technology Acquisition Manager and Business Development Manager. Prior to CropDesign, Johan was Head Technology Acquisition of AgrEvo Hoechst Schering (now Bayer CropScience), and in that position he was responsible for all biotechnology-related technology acquisitions. He joined CropDesign in 1999 as Vice President Business Development and was appointed CEO in December 2004.
